DIRECTIONSGA.COM ACTIVITIES | 23 Kettle corn and caramel Apples Fall is festival time in the mountains — and that means fair food! The big daddy of festivals is Fall Arts in the Park held the second weekend of October in the downtown Blue Ridge City Park. Just 15 minutes south, the Georgia Apple Festival is bursting with everything you can imagine apple — pies, cider, bread and candied! It runs the second & third weekends of October. And, don’t miss Punkin Chunkin, held just across the state line in Brasstown, NC, on October 15 & 16. S’mores One of the first things folks ask when renting a cabin here in the mountains is, “Can we build a fire?” The good news is that outdoor fire rings and fireplaces come standard with most rentals. Just pick up a bundle of firewood at the store or a roadside stand. Then you’ll be ready to toast your marshmallows to make the perfect sweet treat! While they haven’t changed much since Boy Scout campfires in the 1920s, s’mores are still a staple of cool fall evenings around the fire here in North Georgia.
