You’ll find photos in many area stores showing the town completely under water after a major flood in 1990 (look for high water marks painted inside some stores). Further downstream, the Ocoee turns into a wild and roaring whitewater river (and former Olympic venue) that will more than exceed your need for adventure! Of course, you don’t have to ride the train to visit the Basin. It’s a quick drive from Blue Ridge (just 10 miles or 15 minutes on GA Hwy. 5).
