President's Message Dear Friends: Spirit When Saint Leo was founded in 1889, our Benedictine brothers and sisters likely could not have imagined the university we have since become. Not only has our beautiful University Campus grown, but through our centers and online off erings, we have also expanded all over the world. In fact, we educate students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, three U.S. territories, and 83 countries. This issue of Spirit magazine focuses on our international presence. We are pleased to off er classes to learners from Tampa to Tokyo. We also are proud to serve military men and women wherever they are stationed. When I fi rst became president of this institution, people would often ask me, “Where is Saint Leo?” My answer was, “Wherever you want us to be.” It is our goal to educate students anywhere and everywhere. In addition to boasting an international enrollment, we also encourage our domestic students to experience other countries. Some study abroad, some take academic trips to foreign lands, and others do volunteer work during spring and summer breaks. We embrace the diversity that makes up our world. It enhances our students’ educations and helps our students broaden their outlooks. Today, members of our alumni total more than 82,000. They also are a diverse group, hailing from 76 countries. They work and raise families all over the globe. No matter where they earned their degrees, they embrace the Saint Leo values and integrate them into their lives. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful international Saint Leo family. We appreciate all you do for our students when you give of your time and support. With your eff orts and attention, Saint Leo will continue to grow and expand, producing graduates who are ready to make their mark on this world. God bless, William J.
