A real page-turner that lets me know that scary things are in store and Dead Lake didn’t disappoint me. Sam (I assume short for Samantha), an aspiring artist, needs 12 paintings for a gallery showing in one week. Though she’s had 8 months to prepare, a series of events in her life have left her with no inspiration. Her Uncle Pete offers her his remote cabin by beautiful Harob Lake (wherever that is), thinking the quiet would give her the inspiration she needs. Uncle Pete has forbidden Sam to go onto the dock because it is in disrepair, yet on her first night there, she sees a strange man on the end of the dock, looking into the water. She’s supposed to be all alone in the middle of nowhere, with no electricity or cell phone reception so she can’t call her Uncle to find out if this is something to worry about or not. And, although Sam has severe artist’s block, paintings are being done by her while she sleeps and she doesn’t remember doing them. Sam soon realizes that weird and murderous things are afoot! The strange man starts to follow her, disables her car and destroys her only way to communicate. Yikes! Sam also finds out that there have been missing hikers from a trail near her uncle’s cabin and she feels that this creepy stranger is the one responsible. This is a fast paced book that you can read in just a few hours. I thought I had it all figured out, but the ending was quite a surprise. It says that Dead Lake is a supernatural thriller and it sure fits that description. I give it 5 roses because I really can’t say anything bad. It’s just a good, creepy story, perfect for the month of October! (Clue: Nell Klein was reading the book How to get away with Murder for her monthly Book Review in The Tybee Beachcomber.) Until next time, read a book. If it’s a good read, pass it on! HOURS- LUNCH 11AM-3PM DINNER 5-9PM MON - SAT DINNER RESERVATIONS SUGGESTED HIGHWAY 80 & JONES AVE.
