By Elizabeth Jones Activities for October! October is my favorite month to be on Tybee Island. The ocean breeze starts to get cooler, and my favorite two things happen: Pirates Fest AND Halloween! FEATURED ACTIVITY FOR OCTOBER: 12th Annual Tybee Island Pirates Fest October 7th-9th Tickets are already on sale, visit http://tybeeisland.com/pirates/ to purchase yours! Tickets for Friday and Saturday are $15 each or you can purchase a weekend pass for $25. On Sunday from 12:30- 4pm all tickets are FREE! Kids 12&under are free all weekend Dust off your pirate costume (unless that’s something you wear regularly, in which case no judgments here!) it’s time for Tybee’s annual Pirates Fest! There will be good food, live music, and a designated family oriented area for even the littlest pirate to enjoy the festivities. Activities include bounce houses, magicians, storytellers, puppets, live pirate demonstrations, face painting, and many more surprises. There will also be a children’s pirate costume contest and a Pirate Victory Parade on Saturday October 8th at 3pm. The parade will make its way down Butler Avenue towards Strand Street, make sure to find a good spot earlier. On Friday from 5-11pm in the Strand parking lot you’ll find the Thieves Market, Little Matey’s Cove, carnival rides, Bud Light Whatever Bar, and live music. On Saturday the hours are 10am-11pm and there will also be a petting zoo. 32 TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | OCT 2016 THINGS TO DO! Parent’s Night Out October 14th, Drop off: 6pm, Pick up: by 9pm Ages 4-12 (must be fully potty trained) YMCA Members $15 per night/ Non-Members $20 per night. Sibling Discount of 20% This is a great experience for children to interact with other children, while parents get an evening to themselves. These nights include many activities from games, crafts, and movies with dinner provided. A minimum of 6 kids needs to be registered by the day before. Limited spots available — Pre-register at the Welcome Center. Skate Night at the Tybee YMCA October 21st, 6-8pm $4 per skater, includes skate rental The YMCA is a great and affordable place to have a family night out for both members and nonmembers! The skating rink will provide a great climate-controlled arena to enjoy games, concessions, music, skating, and FUN! They have both inline skates as well as traditional quad roller skates that range from toddler to adult sizes. TIPD’s 3rd Annual Safety Spooktactular Trunk or Treat October 29th, 10am-2pm At the Tybee Island Police Department Trick-or-Treat on Lewis Avenue Lewis Avenue is the best place for all ages to celebrate Halloween! een!who The whole island gathers on one street to trick-or-treat and show off their costumes. The police and fire department block off both ends of the street from cars making this a safe place to spend Halloween.
