mended equipment when diving. Be properly weighted, and particularly avoid diving with excess ballast. Never loan your equipment to anyone not certified to dive. Know the location where you will dive. Respect the environment, and avoid dangerous sites and poor diving conditions. Fly the diver down flag to warn boaters of your presence, and then dive near that flag. Exercise moderation with depth and time limits. Take the time to properly plan your dive, and follow your plan. Know the rules of the buddy system and abide by them for your own enjoyment and security. Dive regularly, or renew your skills after a period of inactivity before diving again. Log your dives to remember the details and experiences. If you follow the Recommended Diving Practices presented to you by your NAUI instructor from the outset of your training, they will soon become part of your routine and you will perform them with little effort. Make this your goal, and you will set yourself on a good course to avoid the hazards of diving.
