Chapter 2- Diving Equipment Diving Equipment 35 water, or chlorinated water inside your BC can cause damage. Every time you bleed air from your BC under water, some water gets into the BC. Rinse the inside of your BC using the following procedure: 1. Fill the inside of the BC with fresh water through the oral inflator mouthpiece. 2. Slosh the water around inside the BC thoroughly, turning the BC upside down and right side up. 3. Drain the water by turning the BC so that the inflator/deflator hose outlet is the lowest point and pressing the deflator/oral inflator valve button to allow the water to drain out of the mouthpiece (figure 2-35). Rinse the exterior of the BC thoroughly, as well as the power-inflator hose. Inflate the BC to allow it to dry completely. Store the BC in a cool, dry place with air in the bladder. BCs must have their power-inflator mechanism inspected once per year. If it is not serviced, it can malfunction. You should also inflate your BC completely to check for leaks before each dive trip. Verify What You Have Learned Review the following questions about buoyancy compensators: 16. The three main types of BCs are __________________________, _______________________, and __________________________. 17.
