2. Point your hands, palms together, and arms straight, at the bottom or your target for the dive. 3. Bend forward at the hips until the trunk of your body is vertical in the water. 4. Snap your legs up in the air until they are in a straight line with the rest of your body. 5. Kick to continue your descent as soon as your downward momentum begins to decrease (figure 3-13). The steps for the tuck dive are: 1. Position yourself upright in the water. 2. Tuck your legs to your chest in a tuck position and, at the same time, use your hands and fins to rotate your body to a head down position. 3. Quickly and smoothly, extend your arms down as you extend your legs up into the air so your body is in a straight vertical line. 4. Kick to continue your descent as soon as your downward momentum begins to decrease (figure 3-14). Both dives should be carried out in one smooth, continuous motion. Feet First Feet-first dives are particularly useful for skin divers. On scuba you usually settle gently below the surface and continue your descent feet first. The steps for a feetfirst dive are: 1. Position yourself upright in the water. 2. Hold your head upright and breathe through your snorkel or regulator. Chapter 3- Diving Skills 3. Stretch your arms out to your sides. 4.
