The completed houses were judged by Channel 8-WFLA and Great 38’s Jenn Holloway, Tampa Bay Times editor and reporter Katherine Snow Smith, Tampa Bay Magazine publisher/editor Margaret Word Burnside, Salt Rock Grill executive Chef Barry Spalding and actor Colby Boothman. The proceeds will be used to support the Red Cross’ many programs. 34 TAMPA BAY MAGAZINE | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2017 Stuart Malina is in his 17th season as music director and conductor of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania and his fifth season as principal guest conductor of The Florida Orchestra. The Florida Orchestra’s Amadeus Society, which requires a $2,500 minimum donation from its members, held a holiday concert that featured Conductor Stuart Malina at the piano. Malina, who won a Tony award in 2003 with Billy Joel for orchestration of the musical Movin’ Out, concluded his performance with Mel Torme’s “A Christmas Song” and Tom Lehrer ’s “Hanukkah in Santa Monica.” To become a member of the Amadeus Society, call The Florida Orchestra Development Department at (727) 362-5423. Mary Critchfield and Karol Bullard hosted the American Red Cross’ annual Gingerbread House Event they co-founded and have chaired for 22 years. GRAM Silver Bells The St. Petersburg Opera Guild’s Silver Bells fundraiser featured “Elixir of Elegance” performances by Maestro Mark Sforzini and members of the St. Petersburg Opera Company accompanied by an instrumental ensemble. The St. Petersburg Opera Guild provides education to encourage young talent throughout the state of Florida through vocal and opera competitions and helps support the St. Petersburg Opera Company and its educational programs. Fran Brusini and Linda Pugliese, the chairs of the Silver Bells luncheon benefit, thanked Belinda Dumont for her dedication to the St. Petersburg Opera and to its Guild. COVER ART BY LORRAINE POTOCKI Tampa Bay Magazine Covers at Ruth Eckerd Hall To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Tampa Bay Magazine worked with Sara Mullins of Galleries On The Go to display 30 of its more than 180 magazine covers, alongside the original works of art from which the covers were derived. The exhibit at Ruth Eckerd Hall is in the upper galleries of both the east and west wings. The November opening was attended by many of the artists who created the works including Christopher Still, Lorraine Potocki, Dick Zimmerman, Terry Klaaren and pirate artist Don Maitz.
