BESTBets Frida Kahlo at The Dalí The new exhibition at the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg features more than 60 items associated with Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican artist who was married to muralist Diego Rivera. The show explores Kahlo’s life through more than 60 pieces, including 15 of her original paintings, seven drawings and more than 45 of her personal photographs. Her tumultuous life was filled with pain, yet she found joy through her art and indomitable spirit. The Frida Kahlo exhibit continues at 38 TAMPA BAY MAGAZINE | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2017 The Open Road This exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, is a visual tour de force of 100 photographs that trace the rise of the road culture in America. This unforgettable journey begins with images from the 1950s and continues to the present day. There are three photographs from Florida. There are also three photographs that were made from film stills, one of which is from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho. The American road has been a muse for writers, musicians and filmmakers, just as it was for each of these photographers who captured the spirit of “The Open Road” in their work. The show will open Thursday, February 9, and end on Sunday, June 4. Mike Cheezem’s JMC Communities has purchased the former Belleview Biltmore property to create Belleview Place at 275 Belleview Boulevard in Belleair. Belleview Place will be a luxury residential community on the bluffs over Clearwater Harbor, alongside the Belleair Country Club and its two golf courses.
