Chairman’s Reflections THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA | 2016-2017 18 Dear Friends, On behalf of the entire Florida Orchestra family, thank you for attending this performance of live orchestral music. Whether this is your first concert with us, or you have been attending for many seasons, we are delighted you are here with us today. As we embark on the second half of the 2016/17 season under the leadership of Maestro Michael Francis, we remain committed to serving the citizens of our great communities through exceptional musical experiences. In addition to performances at The Mahaffey Theater, Straz Center, and Ruth Eckerd Hall, The Florida Orchestra continues to reach audiences outside of the concert halls in new and creative ways. We are beginning several new initiatives that will help us fulfill our mission of serving the broadest audience possible. On January 22, we kicked off a four-week chamber music series at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. These concerts take place at 3:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month through April. Additionally, The Florida Orchestra launched its State Residency program with a masterworks performance in Daytona featuring the Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony. The State Residency program will bring symphonic music to thousands of people in Florida who have limited or no access to professional orchestral music in the communities of Daytona, Avon Park, and Gainesville, through concerts and community outreach programs. This project elaborates on Maestro Francis’ community-focused vision of extending the orchestra’s reach beyond the concert halls and highlighting TFO’s status as the premier orchestra in the southeast. Over the next few months we also look forward to our Gala Evening on February 4 featuring world renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, as well as our second edition of “Sing Out! Tampa Bay” on February 11, a concert featuring a chorus of community members with the orchestra. This is an incredibly exciting time for The Florida Orchestra. It is your interest and support that drives our ability to serve our great community. We are grateful to the donors from across the region who support The Florida Orchestra with annual contributions, making possible all the performances the orchestra presents here in our community. It is our commitment to you that we are dedicated to the highest level of excellence in everything we do. We hope you enjoy your concert experience. Best regards, Thomas H. Farquhar Chairman
