THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA | 2016-2017 29 With conducting described as “powerful” and “hefty” by The New York Times, American conductor Vince Lee is rapidly rising as one of today’s top emerging talents. Known among his co n tempora r i e s for his dynamic performances and his razor-sharp ear, Lee’s diverse musical background provides him a flexibility that is unique in the industry. Recently appointed the associate conductor for the Indianapolis Symphony, his firm belief in striving for the highest artistic standards, regardless of genre, venue, or audience, has made him a popular hire for numerous arts organizations throughout the country. Lee’s recent debuts include appearances with the Toledo Symphony, Middletown Orchestra, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and Charleston Symphony. With over 200 premieres to his credit, Lee has become one of the most sought-after young conductors of modern compositions. Lauded in reviews for his “striking attention to detail,” and “energetic, breathtaking performance,” he has established a reputation among composers for bringing particularly challenging and complex music to life. Lee received his master’s degree in conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He was then invited to The Juilliard School by Maestro James DePreist to pursue post-graduate studies. While in New York City, he quickly became in demand, with engagements at Carnegie Hall, the Manhattan School of Music, The New School, NYU, Bargemusic, Symphony Space, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. At Juilliard, he was appointed to the faculty as musical director for the MAP orchestra, and he toured with Juilliard’s AXIOM ensemble, making his European debut at the Tonhalle in Zurich, Switzerland. Bo Fei Wang is an eleventh grader in the International B a c c a l a u r e a t e program at Palm Harbor University High School. He started learning piano when he was 5 years old, beginning on his birthday, August 17, 2000. Since then, he has not stopped learning and practicing, no matter how busy he is. His current teacher is Dr. Grigorios Zamparas. He has won countless piano competitions throughout Pinellas County, District IX of Florida, and the state of Florida. Most recently, he won first place at the 2015/2016 Justine LeBaron Young Artists Competition, sponsored by The Florida Orchestra Musicians Association. Wang is not only an exceptional student in school but also a warm contributor to his community. He often goes to nursing homes and community centers and performs piano pieces. As the elected president of his school’s table tennis association, he organizes his classmates to practice and expand their technique at ping pong. Every year, he represents his school at various interscholastic mathematics and swimming competitions. Wang has worked to expand himself through his studies, music, and physical and social facets of life. VINCE LEE Guest Conductor BO FEI WANG Piano
