A W O R D F R O M O U R D I R E C T O R Dear Friends, Since 1984, South Florida State College has brought you the finest national and international touring performances such as The Nutcracker (1984), Montovani Orchestra (1989), Man of La Mancha (1998), Kenny Rogers (2009), The Lennon Sisters (2013), and Jay Leno (2016). Many of our artists have popular name appeal and shows like The Beach Boys, Oklahoma, or Bobby Vinton usually sell out. South Florida State College is proud of our respected reputation for bringing stellar orchestras, dance companies, jazz musicians, pop artists and comedians to our rural central Florida region, but… It’s time to try new things. Winston Churchill said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” In our quest to improve, we are changing up some of our programming with the new Trending Now Series. Underwritten by Florida Hospital, the exciting Trending Now Series has performances that are unique, contemporary, and geared toward younger adults and families. These shows may not have popular name appeal, but they will surprise you with their incredible entertainment value. Artrageous is a perfect example because it’s more than just a performance, it’s an experience. With artists onstage creating larger than life paintings, creative choreography and audience participation, it might be the wildest show ever to play Florida’s Heartland. The Florida premiere of a brand new ballet, Beauty and the Beast, delivers a present-day production to a children’s classic. For rock lovers, the Chicago tribute band Beginnings, recreates the hits of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Magician Adam Trent, who starred in the Broadway production The Illusionists, presents a modern spell-binding performance that will blow your mind. If you like bluegrass or the rock opera Tommy by The Who, The Hillbenders will amaze you with their live bluegrass version. We will continue to bring you outstanding Artist, Matinee, and Jazz Series performances. But check out the cool shows on our Trending Now Series. And bring your kids or grandkids, too! See you at the show! y Cindy y Garren, Director Dir of Cultural Programs, SFSC
