FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Jesuit, Jesuit High School is part of a world-wide network of institutions sponsored by the Jesuit Order. In the United States alone, there are more than 60 high schools sponsored by the Society of Jesus. Each of our schools has as its mission to serve the local Church and our local communities by forming our students in faith and service. Our own mission statement affi rms that we aim to form young men who are “engaged in the world” and “dedicated to serving God” by the qualities they develop at Jesuit. An indispensable aspect of our mission is to ensure that our enrollment – the very make-up of our student body – serves the local Church and the larger Tampa Bay area. Among other things, this means we commit signifi cant resources to need-based fi nancial assistance. Our goal is to make Jesuit as affordable as possible for every boy in the area, regardless of his family’s fi nancial capability, who desires a Jesuit education and is capable of succeeding and thriving here. Over the past decade, we have more than tripled the resources we dedicate to fi nancial aid. Our budget for this year alone exceeds $1.9 million dollars. This would not be possible without the 2 JESUIT PERSPECTIVES • WINTER 2016-17 generosity you show in your commitment to our Annual Fund, which helps support our fi nancial aid program. In addition, the funds raised by Gaudiosa and the Hartnett Golf Classic go directly and solely to fi nancial assistance for our neediest families, as do the proceeds raised by Dads’ Club parking. These programs and events help us keep faith with Jesuit education across the world and over time. Your support of them helps us fulfi ll our mission. We are deeply grateful for that support. The scope of admissions activities and the outreach to the community is impressive indeed. Last August, we welcomed to campus our largest freshman class in school history. Since 2008, our student body has grown by nearly 20%. This measured, steady growth has greatly enriched our school community and strengthened student life. We have plans to continue this growth until are our student enrollment reaches approximately 850. To sustain this growth – and the people, programs, and facilities required to support it – we count on your generous partnership. More than anything else, this partnership, symbolized by your support, will provide a lasting foundation for Jesuit education in Tampa. God bless you and your families for your generosity and support of Jesuit High School. Yours in Christ, Rev. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. President
