Phase I of Campus Master Plan Taking Shape A 32 JESUIT PERSPECTIVES • WINTER 2016-17 DEVELOPMENT NEWS fter breaking ground in the summer of 2016, Phase I of Jesuit High School’s Campus Master Plan has been taking shape in the heart of campus throughout the fall and winter. The foundation has been established for the two new primary pillars of Phase I – the beautiful Chapel of the Holy Cross, and the two-story Administration and Student Services building. During the winter break, with the foundation established, the administration building began making progress upward. In late January, the same began happening for the chapel, as construction began moving upward. Construction manager Batson-Cook is bringing to fruition the vision of architects Cooper Johnson Smith (administration building) and Duncan J. Stroik (chapel), whose nearly 200 hand drawings of the chapel are coming to life. These two spectacular new buildings will transform Jesuit. The Chapel of the Holy Cross, at the heart of campus, will enhance the school’s Catholic, Jesuit identity, and allow for future growth in enrollment, with the capacity to hold more than 900 students. The 32,000-square foot administration building will span the distance between buildings 1 and 2, and will be the face of Jesuit along Himes Ave, a dynamic and enduring presence. It will be home to numerous school departments, notably counseling and college admissions. Due in part to generally good weather, everything has been proceeding as planned. Completion of Phase I is expected at the end of 2017. Phase II is expected to begin sometime in 2018. The Campus Master Plan is supported by Jesuit’s $40 million ‘For Greater Glory’ campaign (see p. 33). Jesuit’s engineering classes toured the construction site in November
