Winter Signing Ceremony Six Jesuit High School student athletes, including 2016 Guy Toph Award winner Malik Davis ’17 (University of Florida) and All-State football standout Travell Harris ’17 (Washington State) signed with the colleges of their choice on Feb. 1 at one of the most anticipated and publicized signing days in Jesuit annals. Family, friends, coaches, and media packed the MPR for the special event. Jesuit president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. and athletic director Terry Rupp ’84 fi rst addressed the signees, encouraging them to continue to strive for excellence on the fi eld and in the classroom. After Harris – who had not yet committed to a school – revealed a Washington State hat, the group all signed their National Letter of Intent: Davis, Harris, Royce Pope (soccer, Centre College), Rodney Higdon (football, Air Force), Dalton Garrett (football, Johns Hopkins), and Jake Moore (football, Univ. of Dayton). Pope was a 4-year letterwinner who helped the soccer team win four District titles. Davis and Harris – who combined for statebest 50 touchdowns as seniors while leading Jesuit to the State Semifi nal for the second straight year – were national-level recruits. Davis is Hillsborough County’s all-time leading rusher and owner of every Jesuit single season and career record for rushing yards and touchdowns. He committed Spring Signing Ceremony Ten Jesuit High School student-athletes spanning six diff erent sports signed with the colleges of their choice April 12 at a festive early morning signing ceremony in Faber Hall at Jesuit, with family, friends, and coaches in attendance: Will Anderson (basketball, Transylvania Univ.), Camden Bauman (football, U.S. Military Academy - West Point), Danny Boon (football, Southeastern Univ.), Tim Gyenis (soccer, Wright St.), Ian Knott (lacrosse, Rosemont College), Drew Martin to the Gators in October over dozens of offers. Harris kept the suspense going until signing day morning, selecting Washington State of the Pac-12 Conference from a slew of Division I offers, including Syracuse, Missouri, Arizona, Purdue, and South Florida. Harris excelled on defense, special teams, and offense for Jesuit and is expected to play slot receiver and return kicks for the high-powered Cougars offense. (baseball, Eckerd College), Nick Mastro (lacrosse, Marymount Univ.), Benny Ortiz (soccer, Florida College), Lucas Uzdavinis (basketball, Ave Maria Univ.), and Matt Zloto (golf, Spring Hill College). The 10 student-athletes led their respective Jesuit teams to numerous District and Region titles. Bauman and Boon helped football to back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons the past two years. Gyenis and Ortiz helped soccer to a State Semifi nal appearance their junior season. Knott and Mastro helped lacrosse to a District title in 2016 and a 14-3 record this season. Martin helped baseball win the Saladino Tournament title and earn a national ranking by Baseball America this spring. Anderson and Uzdavinis won District titles every season with Jesuit basketball, and helped the Tigers advance to the State Tournament in 2016. Zloto helped Jesuit golf win its 11th consecutive District title this season, placed 4th individually at the Region Meet with a 77, and helped the Tigers to a 4th place result at State, the school’s best State fi nish since 1997.
