FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Jesuit, May is the season of many important, annual events in the life of Jesuit High School: among them, our Senior- Alumni Luncheon, graduation, and our alumni Grand Reunion. It is a time of saying goodbye to our newly minted alumni, and greeting alums who are making their mark in the world, and in some cases have been doing so for decades. For graduating seniors, one of the most important lessons they can carry with them from Jesuit is that these four years, great as they were, are not meant to be “the best years” of their lives. As the years go by, to be sure, their fondness for their Jesuit experience often grows, and a lasting appreciation for what Jesuit has done for them settles in. However, as our mission statement says, Jesuit labors to form men who serve God by being “engaged in the world.” The real test of the value of Jesuit education lies not in what kind of men walk across the stage at graduation, but what kind of men they are as 2 JESUIT PERSPECTIVES • SPRING 2017 the years go by. In other words, what kind of contribution do they make to society, to their families, and to the Church throughout the whole of their lives? This issue of Perspectives highlights the amazing story of George Pollock Jr. ’85, and the dramatic way he has chosen to give back to others, by helping those who face similar challenges to his own. In fact, the Jesuit Alumni Association has many such stories to Contributing photographers: Pete Young, Gigante Productions Inc., Scott Purks Perspectives is a magazine for and about the students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff , friends, and supporters of Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla.
