Steve Jenkins ’75 and his wife, Carole, at Gaudiosa 2017 28 JESUIT PERSPECTIVES • SPRING 2017 DEVELOPM ENT NE WS NEWS Jenkins ’75 Gives $2.5 Million to ‘For Greater Glory’ Steve Jenkins ’75, the CEO of Pharmaceutical Associates, for years has demonstrated exemplary leadership in helping advance the mission of Jesuit. And on March 4, during Gaudiosa 2017: An Evening in Barcelona, Jenkins did so again. Before more than 600 enthusiastic Jesuit supporters, school president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. announced that Jenkins and his wife, Carole, had made an extraordinary $2.5 million gift toward Jesuit’s $40 million ‘For Greater Glory’ capital campaign. Jenkins’ gift is the fourth of at least $2.5 million dollars since the public phase of ‘For Greater Glory’ was announced in 2015. Ted Couch ’54, whose initial campaign gift was $2.5 million, raised his gift to $3.15 million. The Capitano family – Joe Capitano Sr. ’56, Joe Capitano Jr. ’84, and Frank David Capitano ’87 – joined together to make a $3 million gift to Jesuit, which was announced at Gaudiosa 2016. And Richard Gonzmart ’71, who kicked off the silent phase of the cam- Jesuit’s Campus Master Plan includes the Richard Stephen Jenkins Science and Math Building William Yount ’17 received the Richard Stephen Jenkins Award for 2016-17 from science department head Dr. Angelo Pastore paign in 2013 with the fi rst-ever $1 million alumni gift to Jesuit, in 2016 indicated that he would donate an additional $1.5 million to ‘For Greater Glory.’ The generosity of Jenkins and so many others has allowed Jesuit to raise the campaign goal from the original $35 million to $40 million. Jenkins began his career in pharmaceutical manufacturing in 1979, and Carole joined him at Pharmaceutical Associates in 1991. In 2012, the family founded the Jenkins Charitable Foundation, with a focus on supporting faith based initiatives as well as children in need. Jenkins’ name will grace Jesuit’s planned new Science and Math building. Also, Jesuit’s student award in science now is named in Jenkins’ honor. This year, the fi rst Richard Stephen Jenkins Award for Superior Achievement in Science was presented to William Yount ’17.
