Phase I Coming Together Near and Far The construction progress for Phase I of Jesuit High School’s Campus Master Plan, which is supported by the school’s $40 million ‘For Greater Glory’ capital campaign, has been moving along as planned this spring. The 32,000 square-foot, two-story Administration and Student Services building, the face of Jesuit on Himes Ave., is expected to be ready in late 2017. The Chapel of the Holy Cross, the fi gurative and literal heart of campus, is targeted for early 2018 completion. From campus, and the surrounding area, the signs of progress are visible daily as the grand structures are taking shape. But far away from campus, critical work is happening as well: Jesuit commissioned two Europe-based artists to create the sculptures, statues, and paintings that will become part of the Chapel of the Holy Cross’ unique and beautiful spiritual experience. In Florence, Italy, an American sculptor, Cody Swanson, is creating several pieces for Jesuit, including statutes of St. Francis Xavier and St. Ignatius. And in Malaga, Spain, local artist Raul Berzosa is creating the paintings, including the large piece behind the altar, the “Vision of St. Ignatius at La Storta.” This summer, Jesuit president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. along with chapel architect Duncan Stroik will visit the artists to examine their progress.
