1940s STYLE During World War II, most American quilting pulled style interest from the traditional colors of America: reds, whites and blues. This time frame mainly used solid colored fabrics but there was an interest in polka dots and flowers. The polka dots typically were colored on a white background. The flower designs were of smaller size and incorporated more of an artistic sketch style. 25 SIGNATURE QUILTS Patriotism was the main focus of quilts during this time. With many women joining the workforce while the men were off fighting, others helped the cause by creating Signature Quilts. Various individuals or business owners would pay a small fee to have their signature sewn on the quilt. All of the proceeds made went to the Red Cross. During this time there was an influx of wartime quilt making.
