Nixa Public Schools The Nixa Board of Education had its initial meeting with the Missouri School Board Association superintendent search team on June 21 to discuss the hiring of a new superintendent for the Nixa Public Schools. Stephen Kleinsmith announced that after 18 years of being the leader of Nixa Public Schools, he is going to retire on June 30, 2018. “During his tenure, Dr. Kleinsmith has given so much to our Kleinsmith community, but the greatest consideration he has given us is a twoyear notice. This gift of time shows his continued commitment to our community,” Scott McDonald, board president, said. The school board and the MSBA team have developed a timeline for this process as follows: • Announce vacancy: Aug. 30, 2017 • Community forums: Various dates will be scheduled with groups and the community Aug. 30-Oct. 25, 2017 • Application deadline: Oct. 25, 2017 • Initial screening of applicants: Nov. 6-10, 2017 • First-round of interviews: Nov. 27-Dec 1, 2017 • Second-round of interviews, if needed: Dec. 4-8, 2017 • Selection and contract negotiations: Dec. 9-11, 2017 • Announce selection: Dec. 14, 2017 at regular scheduled board meeting • All dates in timeline are subject to change One of the more important steps in this process is the community forums Aug. 30-Oct. 25. “During these meetings we hope to gain input regarding what our community believes are the qualities of the next leader of our school district,” McDonald said. Exact dates have not been set, however, hearing from the community is a vital phase in the hiring of the next superintendent, so please stay tuned for information on dates, times and locations.
