A SHORT HISTORY OF THE ASHEBORO FALL FESTIVAL This year is the 45th year of the Randolph Arts Guild Fall Festival. During this event, we will host nearly 350 vendors and we expect approximately 100,000 people ������������������������������������������������������������������������ end of the festival. But where did it all begin? ������������������������������������������������������������������ Festival was held in 1972, a time nearing the Bi-centennial anniversary of the country. This was a moment in our history devoted to remembering what life used to be like. It was also small, with only about 35 vendors and only included Sunset Avenue. The vendor list included leatherworks, crewel, knitting and crochet, horse shoe tossing, pottery wood turning on a laith, spinning, hooking (rugs), banjo picking, dressmaking, and homemade ice-cream. The biggest draw was the square dancing. The application was printed on orange construction paper, of all things. It had three questions: name, address, and phone number. Registration was due in early October, and the festival was held toward the middle. And they even had a makeup rain date. By the Second Annual Fall Festival, the title of Old-Fashioned was dropped, but they kept all things related to heritage. It grew from being limited to Sunset Avenue from Fayetteville Street to Church ������������������������������������������������������������������������������ could expect demonstrations on the courthouse lawn, like log splitting. The Third Annual Asheboro Fall Festival proudly presented 104 artists and craftsmen who participated in the Fall Festival as vendors. During this time, the Randolph Art Guild took into consideration every single vendor. Dwight Holland personally approved each vendor and reviewed 8 2017 Fall Festival Event Magazine
