Alumni in Action 1960s Darren Farfante ’89 was appointed to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court by Gov. Rick Scott. His investiture was Oct. 5 at the George Edgecomb Courthouse in Tampa. Pete Dooley ’68 of Natural Art Surfboards was honored at the third annual 1990s Boards & Waves Expo on June 3-4 in Melbourne, Fla. Lou Prida Jr. ’68 has been named a “Leading Person of Tampa” by Tampa Magazine. 1970s Hon. Mark A. Pizzo ’70 was honored in September as co-recipient of the Jack Edmund Award for Civility and Excellence in the Practice of Criminal Law. This award is presented by the Herbert G. Goldburg and Ronald K. Cacciatore Criminal Law American Inn of Court. Gregory D. Pizzo ’00, also a practicing lawyer, gave an introductory speech about his father’s distinguished career in federal law. William Federspiel ’74 was selected to join the Education Board at the American Health Council. Jody Simon ’74 was recognized by the Tampa Bay Times for helping professional wrestling fans in Japan pay tribute to the legendary Karl Istaz (who wrestled as Karl Gotch and was nicknamed “Kamisama”) a decade after Istaz’ passing. Bill Curry ’75 was recently recognized as a “2017 Florida Lawyer of Distinction,” placing him among the top 10% of attorneys in the state. 26 JESUIT PERSPECTIVES • FALL 2017 Ken Turkel ’82 was named one of “Ten Tampa Bay Movers and Shakers to Watch” in the second half of 2017 by the Robert Trigaux of Tampa Bay Times. Chris Diaz ’85 and two fellow Florida State University alumni donated and installed 12 solar panels for the FSU campus. Andre Torres ’87 has been named the fi rst-ever Vice President of Urban Catalog Universal Music Enterprise, the company’s fi rst global catalog division. Ed Carlstedt ’89 has been selected to the 2017 list of “Florida Super Lawyers” by Super Lawyers magazine. Dino Farfante ’80 has joined TrueCloud as President, and will be responsible for the strategic growth of the business through expansion of sales and marketing initiatives. Luis Martinez-Monfort ’90 has been recognized by Florida Trend magazine as a Legal Elite, and was named a Florida Super Lawyer. Blake Casper ’91 received the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay’s 2017 Award of Excellence. Charles Wilson ’72 was part of the Judicial Panel for the Florida Bar “Practicing with Professionalism CLE,” which was held on August 4. Ralph Ghioto III ’82 and Chet Ghioto IV ’13 fi nished in fi rst place at the 21st annual Florida State Golf Association Parent-Child Championship in the 22-31 division. George Pollock Jr. ’85 and FSHD Cycling completed the legendary Race Across America in June, doing so in 7 days, 7 hours and 12 minutes. They covered 3,070 miles and 12 states from Oceanside, Calif. to Annapolis, Md., while raising money – reaching their goal of $101,000 – and awareness for Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy. 1980s Gavin Gamber ’92 and his father, Cy Gamber, and Gavin’s son, 2ndgrader Thomas Gamber, enjoyed the St. Joseph’s Prep at Jesuit High School football game at Corral Memorial Stadium on Sept. 1. Cy Gamber is Class of 1955 at “the Prep,” a Jesuit school in Philadelphia where he was a three-year football letterwinner. The Hawks, ranked No. 17 in the nation by USA Today, defeated the Tigers 22-7.
