Indulgence
I know that right here in this space we normally
have an article about local restaurants but
with everything changing so rapidly in the local
dining scene with the virus I thought let’s talk
wine instead. Since we seem to be at home more
and social distancing let’s highlight a few warm
weather white wines for you and a couple of
friends to enjoy safely.
Gavi actually comes from a grape called
Cortese, but the wine itself is produced as Gavi.
The name is given to this wine as part of the
DOCG of Gavi region. The aromas of Gavi can be
quite pleasant with almonds, citrus fruits and
with citrus notes and high acidity. Gavi is one of
my favorite white wines to drink on warm days.
Try this in place of Pinot Grigio next time you
serve wine. There a few names to refer to these
wines; Cortese di Gavi, Gavi di Gavi,
etc…
Viognier is a great Chardonnay alternate typically
grown around France but seems to be popping

up everywhere. The smell of this wine can
mildly as sometimes when opening a bottle the
sweet and sugary. It is quite bold, semi-dry and
wine would go quite well with any grilled chicken
or pork dish and most seafood fare as well as
most salads and cheeses.
Picpoul is a French grape grown in the
Languedoc region used mainly for blending with
other white grapes varieties. The wine itself is
called Picpoul Blanc (the white version) and is a
with Summer fruits or light cheeses.
Please, enjoy a refreshing white wine this
season and drink responsibly!
