ChildrenFirst PPEC Medical Day Care Helping children and their families with complex medical challenges When Nydia Caraballo relocated to Florida from New Jersey, she needed to find a company that provided nursing care and other medical services for her son, Eddy, who suffers from various medical conditions. Born premature at 30 weeks, Eddy has Down syndrome, trachea stenosis, pulmonary hypertension and a congenital heart defect, among other conditions. “I was searching for multiple providers when I came across ChildrenFirst Health Care System,” she recalls. “When I contacted them and described my son’s conditions, they told me about their Medical Day Care program, also known as Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care PPEC. I was very intrigued. They explained that their PPEC centers offer medically fragile kids specialized RN & LPN care up to 12 hours daily for their nursing needs and PT, OT and Speech therapies to help with their overall development. They told me that services are covered by Medicaid, CMS and Medicaid HMOs.” A typical toddler who loves books, music and Elmo, Eddy was in need of occupational and speech therapy to better prepare him to enter kindergarten. “I got him into the ChildrenFirst PPEC program and it really helped him,” she continues. “He made friends and learned to be social. He learned numbers and letters and how to communicate more effectively. It’s a wonderful nursing, therapy 14 www.BrightFeats.com and education program and has been a lifesaver for me.
