being able to give specific reasons. The experiment was repeated with animals deprived of the ability to build memories and in different www.EliteEquestrian.us 75 circumstances, but with the same results. This experiment, known for centuries to a certain sector of the human population, should prompt all of us to think about the consequences of our acts with the horse. It also prompts us to seek a relationship from human to horse that would leave out fear from the process of paying attention, and be better for both of us. ABOUT Human Horse Sensing Human Horse Sensing provides a way to interact with the horse that works on the ground and in the saddle. The horsemanship we aim to develop is not just an interaction based on a trained behavior. It is instead as close as possible to a social relationship. The communication between human and horse is in terms of space and movement, works through the senses, around some parameters that can also be modulated, and results in a purposeful interaction with the horse. One of the parameters is actually the attention. Some of the interactions happen on the ground, with the horse free of tack. When we have nothing that connects us physically with the horse, it is definitely mandatory to be able to have the horse’s attention on us. A horse will pay attention through his eyes and ears from afar and feel, smell or taste if we are close, while doing different activities. The kind of attention we aim to get can only happen in a positive way, because when the horse is free, he can just walk away if he does not like what he is paying attention to. In the saddle we cannot be seen, but the horse feels our body, and every single action we do. The work done without tack does not exclude or substitute riding a horse, or any other kind of training, rather it completes them. This is as close as we can get to having a true social relationship with our horse, where mutual presence, trust, respect, willingness to listen and attention are matters that we can manage because they have a common meaning for us and the horse. EE
