With roots in fine art, an experienced equestrian creates a niche using her quilting skills. The result, turning cherished memories into original art. y name is Janet Bergman, 80 www.EliteEquestrian.us EE “M Remember, my method helps preserve your ribbons, puts a lot of ribbons into a smaller amount of space and adds a fun punch of color to any room in your home or office. Isn’t it time you got those ribbons out and started enjoying them, and your memories, every day? owner and operator of Quilted Horse Designs. I am a national award winning quilter with a fine art background. I make many quilted items, including bed quilts, table runners and wall art. Most interesting to the equine industry, are my Ribbon Quilts. Ribbon Quilts are works of art made from your cherished show ribbons. I take your ribbons from boxes or bags (horrors!) and turn them into fine art. I like to call it the adult version of the string of ribbons around your room! Each quilted piece of art is unique based on your ribbons, the size you want, and any other items you may want incorporated (photos, medals, shirts, jackets, saddle pads, etc.). Trust me…I am a former horse person and understand the value of your ribbons! The process for you is quite simple, you fill out the form on my website, www.quiltedhorse.com, and send me your ribbons. When I receive them, it’s like Christmas! First I drool over the beauty and admire all your hard work, then I take them all apart (Aaah!…have faith!). After much studying and designing, they are traditionally pieced and layered with batting and then machine quilted (just like your grandma used to do…except for the machine part!). Lastly, the rosettes and a hanging sleeve are added, making your quilt ready to hang when it arrives in your home. Each Ribbon Quilt I make, truly is a piece of art and could be entered into any quilt or art show. In fact, many of my pieces have won ribbons (stay tuned for the ribbon quilt made from quilt show ribbons!). Currently, one of my Ribbon Quilts is a finalist in an exhibition of quilts made from unusual materials at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. If you were at Fairhill International last fall, you may have been lucky enough to see it.
