Songstress Margie Perez PHOTOGRAPHY BY: BEATE SANDOR Sings of Love for New Orleans By Meaghan Clark “Love,” “joy,” “appreciation”…those words A native of Washington, D.C., Perez has been a resident of New Orleans since 2004 but she said she fell in love with the city long before that. Annual trips to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival fostered a great love for all things NOLA for Perez, who recalled writing her first song after her initial visit to the festival. “Something awoke in me,” Perez described her first time visiting New Orleans. The singer/songwriter was so inspired by listening to such New Orleans greats as Allen Toussaint and Anders Osborne, she just had to write down her thoughts and ideas and “Oooh Baby, La La” ripple off the tongue of local songstress Margie Perez with the greatest ease and sincerity. It’s how she conducts her business, what she admires about other performers and how she lives her life, both on stage and off. Finding joy in what she does in every moment of her life is what drives Perez to continue learning about her craft and spreading her infectious enthusiasm to her fans, followers and friends. 6 | BREAKTHRU MEDIA | breakthrumediamagazine.com S E P T E M B E R / O C TOB E R 2 0 1 6
