and Friends of Jesuit, $40 million. In addition, we have been able to move quickly with the beginning of Phase I of the Campus Master Plan as well as planning for Phase II. Groundbreaking for Phase I took place at the beginning of the summer on June 3. Many of you were part of that festive day, with students and faculty, Trustees and alumni all on hand to celebrate our success and launch our future. Since that day, a great deal has been accomplished – the construction of a new faculty/staff parking lot, the installation of a new chiller plant, and the erection of a beautiful new Student Commons to serve us during construction. Work has now begun in earnest on the Chapel of the Holy Cross and our two-story Administration and Student Services Building. On August 28, I was able to share the many successes of our students and highlights of the past year with a record crowd at the annual President’s Mass and Breakfast. We thanked Marty and Ted Couch ’54 for increasing their original campaign gift of $2.5 million to $3.15 million. In addition, we announced that Melanie and Richard Gonzmart ’71 have more than doubled their gift of $1 million to $2.5 million. Deo gratias! I want to thank all of you for your past support and assure you of our daily prayers. As we keep faith with the Jesuit tradition and seek to extend it into the future, we in turn rely on your prayers and your ongoing support. Yours in Christ, Rev. Richard C. Hermes, S.J.
