Gaffney’s size (population 12,456) and location are a perfect fit for those who enjoy both the comforts of small city life and the advantages of big city access. Gaffney is conveniently located midway between the larger cities of Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC on Interstate 85. The Greenville-Spartanburg and Charlotte Douglas international airports are less than an hour’s drive from Gaffney. In addition, Gaffney’s position on Route 11, the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway, provides easy access to several South Carolina state parks, gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountain scenery, and numerous points of interest in the Upstate region. As the seat of Cherokee County, Gaffney is the site of public administration offices. The Cherokee County Administration Office and Gaffney City Hall are anchors at each end of Gaffney’s historic commercial district. These agencies provide a range of public services including law enforcement; fire, rescue and emergency medical services; street maintenance; and sanitation and recycling. The City Administration strives to enhance the quality of life for Gaffney residents by maintaining beautifully landscaped neighborhood parks; providing city gallery and studio space to artists; and sponsoring various exhibits, performances, and downtown community events throughout the year. The Village School of Gaffney is a private, nondenominational Christian academy serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The Cherokee County Public Library offers a Learning Resource Center featuring iMacs, iPads and dedicated homework help for students ages 18 and under. Gaffney is home to Limestone College and the Spartanburg Community College Cherokee County Campus. Persons who choose to get into Gaffney as new residents find a complete range of affordable housing options. There are apartments and houses for rent, residential properties for sale, and construction companies that build custom homes. Local real estate companies can assist with finding a home, and financial institutions within the community can offer financing.
