For fishing regulations, visit the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources website at: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regs/fishing.html. For maps of Cherokee County waterways contact the Gaffney Visitors Center and Art Gallery, 210 W Frederick St. Broad Scenic River The 15-mile portion of the Broad River from the 99 Islands dam to the confluence with the Pacolet River is designated as a State Scenic River. The 99 Island Access is located southeast of Gaffney in Cherokee County just below Duke Power Company's hydropower facility. Access to this boat landing is off of County Road 43, on the east bank of the river. Pick Hill access area includes a one lane boat ramp and paved parking. It is located on the west bank of the river. Pacolet River A portion of the Pacolet River flows along the border of Cherokee, Union and Spartanburg Counties. The access site is southeast of Gaffney, under the SC Highway bridge. The site includes a one lane boat ramp and limited parking. Lake Cherokee Lake Cherokee is a public 50-acre lake managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. This lake is open to rod and reel or pole fishing 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It offers a fishing pier and is handicapped accessible. Paddle or electric motor propelled boats only. Fish varieties include largemouth bass, bluegill, shell cracker, and catfish. Lake Thicketty Managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Lake Thicketty is a 110- acre public fishing lake. A boat ramp is available. Outboard motors must be 6 horse power or less. Game fish species include crappie, catfish, and largemouth bass. Lake Whelchel Boat Landing Drive Ph: 864-488-8800 Web: http://www.gbpw.com/recreation-facilities Managed by the Gaffney Board of Public Works, this 150-acre lake features a boat ramp, picnic pavilion, and restroom facilities.
