insider's DISH The Eatery Beer & Cheese Flight DTSP: THE NEW 2 Stephen Schrutt, the owner theAvenue Eat+Drink and Kings Street Food Counter in St. Pete, is at it again. Shortly after theAvenue recently celebrated 5 years in downtown St. Pete, Schrutt opened two additional concepts right next door. Proper: Kitchen & Cocktails opened the first weekend of December and features a southern-inspired menu with a focus on barbeque. Just a couple of weeks later, Park&Rec DTSP opened in the location previously occupied by World of Beer. Park&Rec is a social gaming bar offering an atmosphere that is part arcade, part sports bar showcasing vintage arcade games and an impressive collection of TVs to satisfy sports fanatics. Schrutt’s goal with his newest restaurants is to create a ‘block party’ type feel along 1st Ave S. NEW TAMPA WELCOMES VUELO MEXICAN GRILL Vuelo Mexican Grill in New Tampa celebrated its grand opening in December. The independently owned and operated restaurant serves handcrafted Mexican with attitude. 2013 James Beard Semifinalist Chef Mark Estee (whom you may have caught a glimpse of on Cooking Channel and Food Network) developed the menu with his approach to fresh ingredients, authentic flavors and attention to detail. Think classic Mexican meets Latin/South American flavors and twists. Let us introduce you to Made Coffee, a cannery that specializes in roasting, brewing, canning and kegging specialty cold brew and nitro coffee. Made set out to introduce what it calls a coffee brewery and tasting room to St. Pete. Its products are currently on draft locally, and soon to be distributed statewide in cans. The new brick and mortar location can be found in the Warehouse Arts District of downtown St. Petersburg, located at 131 22nd Street South and is expected to open in early January 2017. The Eatery joins Seminole Heights Brew Bus Terminal The Brew Bus Terminal is a microbrewery, tasting room and hub for their bus tours. With the addition of The Eatery, it now also boats an on-site kitchen serving freshly prepared, cooked-to-order dishes. The casual dining concept offers a menu crafted by classically trained chef Kasia Lavigne and includes starts, sandwiches, sliders and flatbreads. Fresh ingredients, locally-sourced foods and house brews are used to create various menu items. Menu selections include vegan and vegetarian items as well as poultry, pork and beef dishes. Prices start at $3 for an assortment of Caramelized Beer Nuts to $17 for the Beer & Cheese Flight that features a sampling of three beers, grilled flatbread, seasoned beer nuts, goat cheese and specialty cheeses served with house-made accompaniments like bacon jam made with Double Decker Porter. 6 localsDISH JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2017
