entréemagazine 47 By Jane Staley Boaz UNDER THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SUN: DEROMO’S HONORS ITALIAN TRADITIONS Raised in New York City in the constant company of his extended family, Francis Italian customs and cuisine. Memories of sharing traditional dishes at crowded tables with parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins, and shopping the mongers and produce vendors led Francis’ to dream of bringing those warm and comforting experiences to others. DeRomo’s Market located in the Promenade of Bonita plaza is that dream realized. As a tribute to his close-knit family, Francis honors both sides of his family by creating the name “DeRomo,” a hybrid of DeRosa, his mother’s family name and Cuomo, his father’s. Francis emphatically credits his “family and heritage,” as his inspiration for his masterpiece market-restaurant combo that strikes a perfect balance between impressive architecture and inviting ambiance. Open and airy, DeRomo’s is a feast for - ing aromas of just brewed coffee and freshly baked breads. Eyes are drawn to the classic decor, but quickly move to an array of vibrant produce, and display cases offering prime meats, poultry and homemade sausages. A remarkable presentation of fresh seafood follows. A wine selection including boutique and well-known producers is found next to the specialty foods section that includes a cheese shop, olive bar, deli and brick oven pizzeria. A gourmet-to-go section and a custom basket center make dining at home and gift buying easy. Delighted by the beauty and bounty of the market, shoppers are lured to explore further by the sound of clinking glasses, the pleasant buzz of diners’ chatting, and the irresistible aromas of Italian cuisine. Curiosity leads them to DeRomo’s Restaurant, a casual dining spot that accommodates guests at cozy café tables and a sunny, oval shaped, indoor-outdoor bar. Francis chose Southwest Florida for DeRomo’s he says, because of its “appealing, unique climate that northerners, many with a love of Italian cooking,” make their regular vacation spot. His - cept- gourmet market and restaurant under one roof- in the region. Francis proudly points out that in less than a year “DeRomo’s Restaurant has already earned multiple awards including the Open Table Diner’s Choice Award for most reservations requested.” The newest addition to DeRomo’s is the De’Romo’s Banquet Room, perfect for any occasion or special event. Come “FOOD IS THE WAY TO THE HEART, AND OUR HEART IS IN IT!” MORE THAN A SLOGAN, IT IS A SINCERE EXPRESSION OF FRANCIS’ DEVOTION TO PRESERVING HIS FAMILY HERITAGE AND SHARING IT WITH MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.
