The tune-o-matic bridge was created by Ted McCarty, then, President of Gibson® Guitar Corporation. It was introduced on the Gibson® Super 400® guitar in 1953. The next year it was installed on the Les Paul® Custom. The tune-o-matic became Gibson®’s standard bridge design, replacing the previously used wraparound bridge on most guitar models. The ABR-1 style bridge without the retainer wire was commonly used from 1954-1962. From 1962-1975 the non-wired version of the bridge was replaced by the ABR-1 with a retainer wire. Some models, like the SG® were later fitted with the “Harmonica bridge” from 1970-1980. The modern “Nashville” bridge became the standard for Gibson® USA models in 1975. For a complete restoration... Many of Gibson®’s vintage guitar models that employ a tune-omatic bridge are also equipped with Kluson Deluxe Series tuning machines, but why stop there? Our line of specialty hardware includes exact replacement Gibson® strap buttons and a selection of high quality pickguard brackets. Don’t forget the fine details, our pointer washers will help you keep it turned up to 11 while maintaining that classic look and feel.
