The Revenue Cutter Service, originally named the Revenue-Marine, was proposed as an armed customs enforcement service by Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton and commissioned by George Washington on August 4, 1790. In 1915 the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Lifesaving Service and was officially renamed the Coast Guard, the only service dedicated to saving life at sea and enforcing the nation’s maritime laws. Tuckerton Seaport hosts several programs and special events during the year, including the RFA Bass River Summer Flounder Tournament, the Privateers & Pirates Festival and the Baymen’s Seafood & Music Festival in June, a Fire & Ice Family Fun Celebration on New Year’s Day, and Pickin’ on the Porch jam sessions held on the first Sunday of each month. Tuckerton borders the New Jersey Pine Barrens, noted for hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, and ecotour adventures. Located off Exit 58 of the Garden State Parkway, the tiny pristine town of Tuckerton, nestled on Little Egg Harbor, Little Egg Harbor Inlet, and the Great Bay, offers you a Jersey Shore oasis that you’ll treasure.
