Now I understand why you call yourself Florida’s Orchestra, because you are the best. I was especially impressed with Music Director Michael Francis. His leadership and poise on the podium were perfect. - Skip Diegel, President of AM1230 and AM1490 Radio Standing ovations in Daytona Beach It took only a few short hours for The Florida Orchestra to make a big impression in Daytona Beach as it kicked off its first-ever state residency program with a Masterworks concert on January 6. The audience jumped to its feet for two standing ovations – one after a stunning performance by Grammy-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich on Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole, and another after Saint-Saens’ passionate Organ Symphony, all conducted by Music Director Michael Francis at the Peabody Auditorium. The orchestra returns to Daytona in an overnight trip February 6 & 7 for a side-by-side concert with a youth orchestra and youth concerts for elementary students, conducted by Maestro Francis. The state program also includes a two-day trip to Avon Park for classical Masterworks and youth concerts January 19 & 20. In March, musicians perform a free concert at Sebring International Raceway, as well as youth and hospital concerts in Gainesville. 70 THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA | 2016-2017 TFO’s state residency program counties: Volusia, Alachua and Highlands vision of extending TFO’s reach into the community and across the state the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council of Arts and Culture and the State of Florida
