SEBRING AREA INFORMATION Sebring International Raceway is the focal point of the motorsports world every March, but outside the gates of this historic race course is a diverse, fast-growing community that offers many pleasant surprises for visitors. Founded by George E. Sebring of Ohio, Sebring was incorporated as a village in 1913 and became a city in 1923. It has been the county seat since 1921. Sebring’s central location (about 90 miles from Tampa, Orlando and West Palm Beach) has made it a home-away-from-home for many Floridians looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the coastline. Others have relocated from the north to take advantage of Sebring’s great year-round climate. Sebring and Highlands County boast a surprising lineup of recreational activities as well as shopping and dining. In addition, it is an important hub of Florida’s citrus and cattle industry. The city of Sebring has a population of about 14,000 people within its municipal limits, with Highlands County population about 102,000. Sebring International Raceway evolved from a World War II Army Air Base known as Hendricks Field. Sebring’s aviation heritage continues today as the Sebring Regional Airport. Sebring Regional Airport and Business Park is owned and managed by the Sebring Airport Authority. The authority has over 40 years’ of experience in project development and property management. Every year the airport hosts the Sports Aviation Expo. The Airside Center houses Sebring Flight Center (the airport FBO) with a Flight Planning Room, Pilot’s Lounge and Squadron Briefing Room with lockers and private restroom facility, including 50 shower. Also in the Airport Center you will find a restaurant.
