Willena Peeples, “I Am ONE” news, I had seemingly unending questions. At the time, I chose to obtain an oncology opinion out of town. However, not everyone is able to travel out of town for an opinion or treatment. The expense, and emotional and physical toll, not to mention time away from family, can complicate an already challenging life event. I am on a personal mission to help our community hospital advance their care and services so that no one feels the need to go out of town for treatment. We can offer the best in care, right here at home. Our collaborative generosity will transform cancer care. Join me in making a pledge to the ONE campaign for Hamilton Medical Center’s Cancer Institute. I would be grateful for your support. For me, I am ONE has new meaning. I hope you will join us in support of the new Cancer Institute as we commit Willena Peeples and her husband Shelby are community visionaries who are committed to advancing the delivery of cancer care in our community, and in so doing, changing the lives of cancer patients and their families. The Whitfield Healthcare Foundation and all those in our area whose lives have been touched by cancer will be forever grateful to Willena and Shelby Peeples for their legacy gift to the cancer institute. To honor their generosity, the cancer institute will bear the Peeples’ name. The couple shares a strong belief in helping others. Upon learning of Hamilton’s vision to construct a cancer institute, they were inspired to be a part of the project. Their decision to support Hamilton’s plans was reached prior to Willena herself being touched by a cancer diagnosis. As evidence of their commitment to advancing healthcare, Willena is sharing her story of living with cancer as a means of encouragement to others. Dear friends, family, and neighbors, I want to share some good news about how you can help our community do something unprecedented in healthcare. As the incidence of cancer increases and our community continues to grow, Hamilton Medical Center has identified the need to advance cancer care by building and developing a regional, state-of-the-art cancer institute. With numerous lives in our region touched by cancer, many of us share the desire for cancer patients and their families to have comprehensive care close to home. Who among us has not been impacted by cancer, whether through learning of a friend or family member’s diagnosis, or possibly as a survivor ourselves? I am one person in our community who is fighting to overcome cancer. I am one of over 14,000 persons in our community living with cancer. In November 2015, I was at a routine physical when I became aware that the doctor suspected something was wrong. In December 2015, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and surgery and treatment were recommended. With the overwhelming to changing lives and changing the face of cancer care in our community. Gratefully yours, Willena Peeples, cancer survivor The Whitfield Healthcare Foundation requests your thoughtful consideration of joining the Peeples family and others who have made a financial commitment to the Foundation’s ONE Campaign, as we help turn Hamilton’s vision into reality. One Vision. One Institute. One Community. Together, we will transform cancer care and our community. Please contact the Foundation by phone at 706.272.6128 or visit us online at hamiltonhealth.com/foundation to learn more about how you can be a part of this transformational project. 16 17 Willena Peeples
