WELCOME TO EXPO! ©2017 THE HSUS. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER, ACID FREE AND ELEMENTAL CHLORINE FREE, WITH SOY-BASED INK. Wayne Pacelle President & CEO Welcome to beautiful Fort Lauderdale, home of the 26th annual Animal Care Expo! The Humane Society of the United States is privileged to once again host the world’s largest conference for animal sheltering and rescue professionals and volunteers. This year’s lineup of exhibitors and presenters sets the bar higher than ever and will leave you more informed and newly inspired to continue the lifesaving work you do every day. This year we are proud to offer even more opportunities for you to learn and share: Tuesday, May 9, 4:00 p.m.: Welcome Session, Grand Ballroom, Sponsored by Petfinder Join me in welcoming special guest Victoria Stilwell, sponsored by Maddie’s Fund, for an inspiring conference kickoff. One of the world’s most recognized and respected dog trainers and star of Animal Planet’s hit TV series It’s Me or the Dog, Victoria certainly shares our passion for animal rescue and rehabilitation—and will no doubt leave us even more inspired for the days ahead. Wednesday, May 10, 12:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, May 11, 12:30 p.m.: Exhibit Hall Mini Workshops, Hall A, Sponsored by Maddie's Fund The Expo exhibit hall is the place to find all the tools you need to do your best work, but as a special bonus this year, I am pleased to announce that Maddie’s Fund is hosting special mini workshops during Wednesday’s and Thursday’s exhibit hall hours. Don’t miss these extra learning opportunities! Thursday, May 11, 7:45 a.m.: Networking Breakfast, Grand Ballroom, Sponsored by Michelson Found Animals Registry Breakfast is served—with a side of networking! Start your Expo day on the right foot with a light breakfast and a brief introduction from HSUS vice president of state affairs, Kelly Peterson, and the state affairs team, sharing how HSUS is working locally to improve conditions for animals. Then connect with HSUS representatives from your state/region/ country and other attendees tackling the issues most important to you and your community. Thursday, May 11, 4:00 p.m.: Special Session—“Come on down … The policy is right!”, Grand Ballroom, Sponsored by Petco Foundation Think legislation and other types of public policy aren’t relevant to your lifesaving mission? Think again! When politicians take on issues like breed-specific legislation, hold times for cats, adoption regulations and access to veterinary care, your work may be directly affected, and not necessarily for the better. Don’t miss this fun, interactive special session in a gameshow format that takes the mystery out of public policy work and showcases why you need to start shaping laws and ordinances that actually work for you, rather than just allowing them to happen to you. Thursday, May 11, 8:00 p.m.: Expo Party! Hilton Marina, Sponsored by Pethealth, Inc. The annual Expo Party is the perfect way to relax, unwind and enjoy interacting with old friends and new ones. You won’t want to miss it! Don’t forget that the Animal Care Expo App, sponsored by Maddie’s Fund, is the best way to get the most up-to-date conference information, room assignments and special happenings! And be sure to share your new ideas and fun photos by using #animalcareexpo. I know you will draw on the new ideas, information and practical tools you receive here at Animal Care Expo 2017 throughout the rest of the year as you continue working each and every day to save animals. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again next year as we “meet in the middle” in Kansas City, Missouri, May 14–17, for Expo 2018! PAUL MARKOW PHOTOGRAPHY
