Library: Youth Summer 17 (Groups of 10 or more must register in advance.) Library Mad Science This spectacular, science-themed show is designed to amaze and entertain audiences. The show will explore the science of magic. Groups of 10 or more must call to reserve a spot. • Fri., July 21, 2-2:45 p.m. Fun Side of Math: Digital Scavenger Hunt Who says math can't be fun? In this workshop, kids will learn that it can be fun. Participants will take photographs and use them to gain an understanding of whole numbers, integers and fractions. Digital cameras will be provided. This program is best for students in grades 2-6. Registration is requested. • Thu., July 27, 5-6 p.m. Tricky Dogs The Tricky Dogs show is a circus-style comedy dog show starring six terriers, one poodle and their pet human, Rick Martin. Groups of 10 or more must call the library to reserve spots with the youth librarian. • Fri., July 28, 2-2:45 p.m. Back to School Bash & Summer Raffle Drawing Free school supplies and backpacks will be given to the first 200 children who attend. Tony the Balloon Guy and facepainter Phyllis will be in attendance to make free balloon animals and paint faces. The winners of the summer reading raffle will be announced. • Sat., Aug. 5, 2-3 p.m. Fun Side of Math: Cool Tricks with the Number 10 This program shows children how to use the number 10 in different ways to solve problems faster. Learning the “magic of ten” is practiced through interactive games and food. Please register online. Best for grades 2-6; younger students may attend alongside a participating parent. • Thu., Aug. 24, 5-6 p.m. Guerrilla Storytime Sundays Come to the youth play area on Sundays for impromptu story times for the whole family. A quick 15-minute storytime will be held anytime between noon and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays when there are at least four children. Enjoy a picture book or two and a fun song or nursery rhyme as you play. What could be better on a Sunday? • Sun., noon-2:30 p.m. Mother's Day Tea Party Celebrate those very special adults: mothers or others who love and care for us. Bring your special caregiver with you to a tea party in their honor. Enjoy stories, crafts and goodies. • Wed., May 10, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mothers, or Others, Who Care For Us Share stories and songs about mothers and make crafts for that special person in your life. Using fun and easy activities that can be done during day-to-day routines, you will learn different ways to explore nature, choose books that support early math and science concepts, and build vocabulary necessary for counting, comparing and building an understanding of the scientific world.
