Library: Youth Summer 19 Summer Library Camp Enjoy a week of fun-filled afternoons participating in library literacy activities, exploring behind-the-scenes areas of the library, and attending entertaining programs. Stay for a snack, and attend the Create-a-Craft Camp immediately following. This program is for students entering grades 3-6. Registration begins May 18 and is required for both camps. • Mon.-Fri., June 19-23, 1-3 p.m. Create-a-Craft Camp Fun, free and fantastic! Enjoy a week of creative afternoons. Work with a different medium each day. Some creations may take more than one day to complete. This program is for kids age 7 and older. Registration begins May 18. • Mon.-Fri., June 19-23, 3-5 p.m. Tricky Dogs The Tricky Dogs show is a circus-style comedy dog show starring six terriers, one poodle and their pet human, Rick Martin. Groups of 10 or more must call the library to reserve spots with the youth librarian. • Mon., June 19, 2-3 p.m. Aussie Funk Jam Learn how to play the didgeridoo, including vocalizing and creating simple rhythms, using individual instruments. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. Online registration is required. For ages 9-18. • Fri., June 23, 2-3 p.m. Wonders of Nature Wonders of Nature will bring their traveling wildlife show to demonstrate the amazing behaviors of raptors, parrots, flying squirrels and more. • Mon., June 26, 2-3 p.m. Mad Science Magic secrets will be revealed as you learn how magicians use science to create illusions and slight-of-hand to trick you. Fun continues with dry ice storm and lava lamp booths after the program. • Mon., July 10, 2-3:30 p.m. Ukulele Academy This week-long program will be led by an instructor from the Tampa Bay Ukulele Society. Ukuleles will be provided for the class, and you must commit to all five classes. On Friday, students will perform a concert for parents and receive a ukulele graduate diploma. The program is limited to 25 students, and registration is required. For children ages 8-13 and their caregivers. • Mon.-Fri., July 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 • 3-4:30 p.m. Fun with Ronald McDonald Ronald McDonald will perform interactive skits, music and of course will provide plenty of laughter. • Mon., July 17, 2-2:45 p.m. Project Linus Blanket Making Party Build a better world by making blankets to donate to Project Linus. We will be creating no-sew fleece blankets and watching “The Peanuts Movie.” Project Linus is a charity that gives handmade blankets to children in difficult situations. This is a family program. Stop by the youth desk to register for the event. • Tue., July 18, 5:30-8 p.m. Build a Better Sundae Celebration Join us for our end-of-summer ice cream sundae celebration. Mad Science will return with fun activity stations and take-home fun. • Mon., July 24, 2-3 p.m. Constellation Art Join us for a two-day LED constellation art project. Paint the night sky and then light it up for a glowing piece of take-home art. Space is limited. Registration is required. For ages 7-12. • Tue., Aug. 1 & Wed., Aug. 2 • 3-5 p.m. North Greenwood Library Bricks 4 Kidz Explore architecture, engineering and technology concepts using Lego bricks in this program by Bricks 4 Kidz. • Tue., May 2, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Video Gaming Madness Come join us for Wii and Xbox One video game fun. • Wed., May 3, Aug. 2, 4:30-6 p.m. Homework Help Youth Development Initiatives will provide tutorial sessions, mentoring, computer literacy and homework help. • Tue. & Wed. in May, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Mother's Day Craft Need something to give to mom on Mother's Day? Join us for our craft to help say thanks for all that they do. • Wed., May 10, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Doggone Reading Fun Paws for Friendship Inc. brings therapy-trained dogs for 20-minute reading sessions. Reluctant readers, or children who might not enjoy reading aloud, are often eager to read in the presence of an adoring and nonjudgmental pup. • Thu., May 11, 4-5:30 p.m. UNO Tournament Do you love playing UNO? Show off your card skills in our friendly UNO card game tournament. It’s fun for all ages. • Wed., May 17, Aug. 16 • 4:30-5:30 p.m. Legos at the Library Design and build your own Lego creations during this free-build session. All ages are welcome and the library will provide all Legos. • Wed., May 24, Aug. 23, • 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday Gaming Madness Enjoy playing Xbox One, Wii U, board games and card games supplied by the library.
