It was the stuff jazz lovers' dreams are made of, and it was made even more special because one of the musicians has been a familiar Boca Grande face for a very long time. Dick Hyman, Ken Peplowski and Shelly Berg performed for a packed house that night. It was truly a thrill for our freelance photographer Skip Perry, and that's saying something, considering he has shot musicians such as Jim Morrison of the Doors during his career as a professional photographer. Born in 1927, Dick Hyman is a living jazz legend. His career began in the 1950s, and since then he has not only been known as a pianist but also as a composer, director and arranger of music. He has done everything from movie scores to compositions for worldrenowned orchestras, and has recorded more than 100 albums under his own name. He is very well known for being Arthur Godfrey's musical director and was the man behind the music for the musical "Sugar Babies," as well as Woody Allen films such as "The Purple Rose of Cairo," "Hannah and Her Sisters" and "Mighty Aphrodite," among others. According to his website, dickhyman.com, he was also one of the first musicians to record on a Moog synthesizer, which landed him on the Billboard charts.
