1961 OLDSMOBILE STARFIRE The Oldsmobile Starfire was introduced in January, 1961 as a convertible and was separated into its own model line. It is loaded with standard equipment including center console with tachometer and floor shifter for the Hydramatic transmission. This is the first U.S. full-sized production car to feature an automatic transmission with a console mounted floor shifter. Additional standard equipment includes leather bucket seats, brushed aluminum side panels, power steering, power brakes, power windows and power driver’s seat. The standard 394 cubic inch Skyrocket V8 engine (Oldsmobile’s most powerful in 1961) uses a 4-barrell Rochester carburetor and generates 330 horsepower.
