You are likely to encounter 256 Boating, Diving, and Seamanship many types and sizes of dive boats, from a tiny inflatable to a luxurious live-aboard. All dive boats have certain elements in common and some basic differences. Techniques used to dive from them can vary as well. This chapter examines different types of dive boats and diving techniques appropriate to each. There is a bit of overlap, and to avoid repetition, procedures common to all boats will be covered in the final section on charter boats. Techniques unique to a certain type will be covered in the relevant section. No one book can tell you everything you need to know to be a good diving boater. The information presented here is intended primarily for small, personally owned, power-driven boats.
