As a child, Dr. Ortiz loved nature and biology. Science fascinated his curious young mind. As a youngster, he gravitated towards the doctors and those who dealt with issues of life. This is deep-rooted zeal for the medical profession is what led Dr. Ortiz into podiatry. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Ortiz has been in the U.S. for about 30 years. He received his medical degree from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine. That was followed by residencies in Primary Podiatric Medicine at Cedars Medical Center and in Podiatric Surgery at Coral Gables Hospital, both in Miami, Florida. Dr. Ortiz is currently pursuing a traveling fellowship in Microsurgical Orthoplasty and Nerve Surgery of the lower extremity. This important extra specialty will allow him to help better alleviate nerve pain and improve mobility. Arthritis in the feet and ankles, heel spurs, and deformities (such as bunions and hammertoes) can cause a great deal of pain. Athletic sprains and injuries, fractures, and any kind of trauma will knock you off your feet — literally. And some medical conditions, such as diabetes, can cause their own set of serious problems in the lower limbs. Age also brings an additional risk of injury. Dr. Ortiz believes that keeping people moving in a healthy direction — and for his senior patients, helping them stay mobile. In fact, one could reasonably put forth that the feet are the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.
