The dam’s impervious core was made of heavily compacted clay and is virtually watertight. A sand drain allows any water that passes through the clay core to pass safely through the dam. The outlet works, consisting of the control tower, tunnel and stilling basin, permits the controlled release of water through the dam. The Healthy Active Community Running River Trail: Located in the Outlet Park, this 3.1-mile long trail of compacted ���������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Terre River through oak, hickory and cedar forest. Many types of wildlife are a common sight along this trail. This trail is open to walkers, joggers and cyclists. No motorized vehicles or horses allowed. The Pomme De Terre Multi-Purpose Trail: Located in Bolivar Landing this trail is designed for equestrian use; however, any non motorized adventurer is welcome to explore its 20 miles of trail which wines through the forest and riparian habitat of the southern position of Pomme de Terre Lake. This trail is the only one which horses are permitted. State Park Trails The Cedar Bluff Trail is 3.5 miles long and located within the Hermitage side of the Pomme side of the Pomme de Terre State Park. The Indian Point Trail is 3.5 miles long and is located on the Pittsburg side of the Pomme de Terre State Park.
