their co-workers calculate premiums by hand. He says, “The ownership aspects of the agency are what currently intrigue me.” He loves, understands and reveres his profession; longing and training to be the best at what he does. Donna said, ‘’Swanson’s has recently reached a new point where we have multiple agencies. Presently we write policies for almost any kind of business.” After years of reliable service to the community, Swanson Insurance is a member of the PIA, BBB and Chamber of Commerce. The agency has partnered with a number of companies such as Lighthouse, Progressive, Louisiana Worker’s Compensation Corporation, Humana and Illinois Mutual. Swanson’s is also a part of the 10,000 Small Business Initiatives founded by the Goldman Sachs Foundation. The agency has grown its personal lines products to include homeowners, automobile, motorcycle and recreational vehicles, flood and excess flood, jewelry and collections, watercraft, and umbrella. Its commercial lines products include worker’s compensation, property/fire, general liability, flood and excess flood, automobile and commercial vehicles, inland marine, professional liability and bonds. There is another layer of Swanson at the agency; a third generation, and newly arrived accountant, Kristin Swanson. Kristin feels strongly about growing a business set in motion by previous generations. She says, “Many of Swanson’s clients are not deeply versed in insurance products” so, it pleases her when she provides the ideal product and they are satisfied and calmed knowing that “they are in good hands at Swanson’s.” Kristin adds, “I learned from the best; my grandparents started at a somewhat volatile time and laid the groundwork for me to make it grow. Now it is kind of like an obligation on me and my generation to keep the forward progress.” Last, but by all means, not least, are the stellar stars and supporting cast of employees who fit right into the Swanson mode. They provide great balance to an already gifted team of relatives. No one represents this crew of employees better than Ms. Charlotte Hyde. She’s the first person seen when walking into the building and the last one on the way out. She has worked at the agency since 2001. Swanson’s was located at 2601 Tulane Avenue on the 6th floor during those days. Charlotte started as a receptionist, moved to auto lines, then marketing and currently business and corporate insurance. She relishes assisting people, helping them to select the best product for their particular situation. She has loved her job since the beginning, and especially the Swanson family. Charlotte has been known to track down her clients to get them to stay current on their premium payments and not have a lapse in insurance. She really cares about her clients. Clarence Moret, a local independent insurance agent with the Hamilton Insurance Agency, says that the team assembled at Swanson’s is extremely competitive with the best of them. He says that Donna represents "one of the brightest and most well-prepared agent/ owners in the city of New Orleans.” He further noted that “She Donna is constantly training to be the best, most recently at a seminar with none other than Mr. Warren Buffet.” The expert team at Swanson’s Insurance Agency works hard to stay competitive and well-informed on current insurance pricing and trends through continued education and skilled and professional service. Of all of the symbols represented by the Swan, balance is the one that is in full operation and on display at Swanson’s. Swanson’s is dedicated to helping people maintain a balance between enjoying life and preparing for those unexpected moments where insurance steps in to provide needed financial assistance. Charlotte Hyde MAY / J U N E 2 0 1 7 breakthrumediamagazine.com | BREAKTHRU MEDIA | 23
