Jonathan Kastner Executive Chef, Anchor Bar & Grill For Anchor Bar and Grill Owner Jonathan Kastner, the true meaning of food lies well beyond the basic need for people to eat just to survive. “Eating is a basic human necessity, but in our business we get to take that and bring joy to people,“ said Kastner. “Food is one thing that brings all of us together.” Located in picturesque Hudson Marina in Orange Beach since October of 2015, Jonathan has gathered over 18 years of culinary experience and applied it to the daily operations of the casual environment at Anchor Bar and Grill – a mixture that appeals to locals and visitors alike. “I’ve always loved food and restaurants and their ability to bring people together. So, while in college, I decided to go all in. I moved to Chicago to attend culinary school and the rest is history.” Kastner has teamed with business partner Eric Beech to make Anchor Bar and Grill a success, and credits Beech for bringing him to the Gulf Coast, along with “the view from the kitchen”, which in this case, is hard to beat. While many people find their careers mundane or monotonous, Kastner feels fortunate to not have that issue. “It changes every day. I learn something new every day. As the seasons change, new product becomes available and we get to find a way to make it delicious.” While already establishing itself as a “go to” favorite, Kastner has big plans for the future when it comes to Anchor Bar and Grill. “Over the next five years we plan to grow Anchor into the restaurant we envision.” In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys gardening in the community garden, “hanging with our new baby boy Nolan”, and running.
