Valerie Schenck Purveyor of the best junk anywhere near the Beach! As you step foot into the quaint parking lot of Antiques on Alston Street, you are met by two colorful flags and a sign stating, “GOOD JUNK”. And that is just the way Valerie Schenck wants to keep it, especially the kind of “good junk” once made in the USA. Valerie and her husband have lived here for over 30 years and have raised two children on the island, and love the people (both residents and visitors) that venture into her shop. They operate a successful seafood restaurant called “Bubba’s Seafood House”, but she felt an urge she couldn’t resist a couple years ago. She has been collecting antiques her whole life, and was inspired about three years ago to open up her own store. It has been a fulfilling experience, as she enjoys watching families “antique together”. She brings along the family Golden Retrievers Barkley and Rocky to work with her and they happily greet visitors as they walk in the shop that is filled with so much unique history. Valerie enjoys making lamps out of vintage items and proudly displays them in her store, along with repurposed and rescued pieces. She hopes that her shop will continue to grow as the community supports her distinct efforts, as the store is utilized as an outlet for her creative efforts. Visit the store, and you too can live by her motto, “Vintage: where all is calm and much is collected”.
