Meet Leck & Jana Owners of Big Fish Restaurant Leck Lilayuva, is a native of Orange Beach of 40 years. Jana Lilayuva is from the Czech Republic but has lived in Orange Beach for over 20 years herself. Combined, they have nearly 40 years of experience in the restaurant business. Leck’s father owned Niki’s Seafood Restaurant on canal road in Orange Beach from 1979-2003. Leck literally grew up in that restaurant. Jana worked in restaurants ever since she arrived from the Czech Republic. They met working together in a restaurant in 2006 and married in 2007. Late in 2009 they decided to venture out on their own – Big Fish was born Jan. 5, 2010! Big Fish has it’s own unique flair unlike any restaurant on the Gulf Coast. Chef Leck’s father is from Bangkok, Thailand. Leck wanted to bring his heritage to the menu and incorporated an Asian flair to some of his dishes. It’s very subtle, not overpowering. He has introduced different herbs and spices to the area without being considered an Asian restaurant. Big Fish specializes in freshness. All the fresh catch is hand-cut by Leck himself. They have anywhere from 8-14 types of fish on the menu each night as well as large diver scallops, fresh lobster, mussels, snow crabs, colossal-lump crabcakes and a lot of other fresh seafood. Being the beef lover that Leck is, he also wanted to have the best steaks around. He only uses prime quality filets and ribeyes and hand cuts them all personally. Big Fish also has an extensive sushi bar with the highestgrade product available. When you visit, you’ll feel like you’re in New York or downtown L.A. The décor and ambiance is very chic and elegant. It has an upscale feel without being too stuffy. The service is second to none! The whole staff is always friendly, smiling and very well-versed on the menu. Even the kitchen staff will greet you when you walk by since the kitchen is wide-open near the bar. And on one of those pleasant Gulf evenings you can dine out in the beautiful courtyard. Big Fish is definitely a change of pace from all the other restaurants in the area. Don’t expect a waterfront view but you’ll enjoy a great experience in a beautiful restaurant with outstanding food, wonderful ambiance and smiling faces. This is the type of place you want to dress to impress! So leave the swimsuit and flops at home and hit the town in style!
